乌特勒支大学是荷兰最古老的大学之一，成立于1636年。该校位于荷兰人文荟萃的重镇-乌勒特支，以其悠久的传统而闻名于世。今天的乌特勒支大学已经发展成为欧洲最大、最有名望、集科研和教学于一体的高等院校。该校有14个院系，开设了70门学位课程，开设的学科比荷兰的其他任何大学都多。在学校的教学和科研体系中，一直把质量放首要位置。 乌特列支大学

Urtecht University (以下简称 UU)是13所荷兰University中最具有历史根源之学校。因为学校最初发展始於中世纪时期并自此与乌城互荣共展，而乌城本身则是由罗马人建於西元47年并且很快即成为北荷兰人文荟萃之重镇一直到现在。目前的UU就像许多古老的欧洲学校是由天主教会学校转变而成，并於1636年正式在荷兰政府立案为UU。大部分早期的学校建筑至今仍座落於古老的市中心 Cathedral Squqre (Domplein)，而最著名的建筑是Stately Academy Building (Academie gebouw)，现在则主要做为学校大事及典礼或博士答辩，reception之用。
20世纪的UU学生及教职员数目随著各类研究室(所)在乌城各处设立而激增。因此学校当居为了实际之需要，在1961年选定De Uithof并将此建设成为主要校区。在De Uithof有12个学院和中央行政中心，留在城内则有Facultits of Law and Humanities及总图书馆(General Library)。若是比较学校经费(700 million GL)和7,500名教职员，UU 是全荷兰最大的University，而若以学生人员而言(25,000)则略少於 University of Amsterdam。
